A Gated Community You Call Home!!!
PALS Youth Center
Several steps from your apartment home is The Greig Smith LAPD
Pals Youth Center
providing after-school enrichment programs for children and
teens age 7-17. The center is a
safe place for PALS kids to learn and grow offering free,
educational, athletic, creative and
recreational after school activities. The center is open
Monday-Thursday from 1:00-6:00
throughout the year. Classes change regularly, and include Tae
Kwon Do, Art & Reading ,
Homework, Glee & Cooking just to name a few. Field trips to
Museums, Disneyland and other
Southern Calif. destinations are available to the Youth of our
Community.
The facility includes a large multipurpose activity room, a
computer center with 11 learning
stations, a library and tutoring center, an arts and media room,
a park like playfield and
outdoor sports courts. The center serves 100 youth per day.
The PALS Arts Program provides opportunity for young people to
explore their creative side.
We offer classes in drawing, dance, drama and arts and crafts,
exposing kids to a world of
color, music, movement, skills and technique.
The PALS Sports Program trains character and commitment through
athletics. PALS athletes
compete and train in a wide variety of seasonal sports,
receiving both instruction and skills
improvement. The sports program offers both beginner and
advanced skill opportunities.
The PALS Education Program offers daily homework help, literacy
support and one and one
tutoring. Our education support team provides patient
instruction and guidance throughout the
school year and offers enrichment during the summer including
science and computer
learning. At PALS we believe that an important part of growing
up is learning about the world
you live in.
Citizenship training is a valued part of what takes place at the
youth center. PALS members
are given the opportunity to learn about their community and
their world. Our members are
involved in community service and neighborhood cleanup projects.
Ongoing opportunities to
learn are provided on the subjects of drug awareness, character
development, college
preparation and responsible life choices. PALS is also proud of
our Police Cadets (youth
looking to law enforcement as a career). This dynamic and
service oriented group of young
people meets weekly at the youth center.
The LAPD Devonshire Cadets participate in police training,
academy classes, and serve at
community events.
Above all, kids need to have fun, and for that, the youth center
is the place to be. The facility
includes an art and media room, a computer lab, a library and
learning center, an outdoor
basketball court, tetherball courts and a grass play field. In
our main hall we play video games,
air hockey, ping pong and board games. The hall is also the home
to our larger classes and
our wonderful special events. In addition, there are always
opportunities for fun outside the
center like beach trips, movie days, pool trips, summer camps,
amusement parks and a
variety of educational field trips. The Devonshire Youth Center
is a place where kids can be
themselves, try new things and make new friends. It is a place
of laughter and learning, of
growing and sharing, of mentoring and changing, of community and
caring. For more information please call 818/885.6432.
